This Southeast Asian country can surprise you with both delicious and eccentric food. When walking along its streets, you can even feast your eyes upon its golden temples. Thailand doesn’t fall short of the spectacular mountain and sea views, perfect for relaxing. Of course, Thailand’s cities are also a must-see, especially when its capital is called the “city of smiles.”

Wherever you are in Thailand, you just can’t help but fall in love with this country that you considered living in it. Whether you’re a traveller, out for work, a student, or someone who’s finding their dream home, there’s definitely a place for you in Thailand.

Getting to know Thailand’s Regions

Generally, Thailand is divided into six regions: North, Northeast, Central, South, East, and West. When visiting or staying in each region, it is best if you check Thailand’s climate for a hassle-free stay.

Thailand has hot, cool, and rainy seasons. The hot season can be experienced from March to May; the cool season from November to February; and the rainy season from June to October.

Below is a list of places where you could stay, buy property, or even rent in Thailand, depending on what you are looking for. Before reading on, picture your ideal area. Do you want a nice view, an accessible area, or beaches, perhaps? This is for you to have a rough idea of where you want to stay. It is also important to consider the activities and places surrounding the area too. You’re going to stay or potentially live there, you know.  Overseas property owners who want to rent out their property should also see rental opportunities in the following areas.

Along the Mountains

The highlands, mountain ranges, and plateaus are situated in the north, northeast, and some western parts of Thailand. In these areas, you will be greeted with a cool breeze and a relaxing environment. When living here you will be close to Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest peak.

Chiang Mai Province sits at the centre of the north, with a lot of exciting activities to do such as hiking, rafting, riding elephants. For a quieter and less populated area in the north, you could stay at Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Song.

When staying up north, you can further immerse yourself in Thailand’s history in Ayutthaya where the remnants of Thailand’s capital is. Kanchanaburi also contains more historical traces of World War II and The Death Railway.

Along the Sea

If you want to live along Thailand’s beautiful beaches, you need to head to the south and east regions. Here, you will find the famous Phuket beaches. Aside from Phuket, you can visit other islands such as Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Lipe. Overall, beaches here cater to either a quiet relaxation, a colourful nightlife, or even both.

For instance, Patong Beaches are known for the wild nightlife scene complete with bars, nightclubs, massage parlours, and cabarets along the neon-lit Bangla Road and OTOP Shopping Paradise Complex.

Since Phuket is a well-known tourist destination, it may be too much for those finding a peaceful area. The neighbouring provinces of Phuket such as Krabi, Phang Nga, and Trang have further options for a quiet yet relaxing abode. In this area, you will find Pha Nga Bay. Side by side with limestone cliffs and rock formations, caves, and lagoons – it is something you’ll definitely want to see again and again.

In the east, you can discover Jomtien, Koh Samed, and Pattaya for both oceans and mountain views. Every beach in Thailand is a treasure trove for all thrill-seeking and serene-loving people. Get to experience Thailand’s clear waters, white beaches, caves, and their refreshing coconut drink all day every day along these areas.

In the City

Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and the largest urban area in Thailand. Making up the Bankok metropolitan region are Bangkok, Nakhon Pathorn, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon. Being the main urban area in Thailand, you should expect a lot of buildings. In essence, you will find business centres, big institutions, international schools, and a lot of people. However, this does not mean that the city is not a great place to stay.

Bangkok’s official Thai name Krung Thep Maha Nakhon translates into the city of angels or divine beings. Certainly, you’ll find a lot of magnificent statues and temples preserving Thai’s culture and religion, especially along the Grand Palace.

Not only that. Bangkok is known for having a plethora of street food. Get your fill for both tasty and exotic food only in Thailand’s eat streets. You can check Migrationology’s list of the best food stalls in Thailand. Some of the famous street foods are:

  • Kluay Tod – deep fried bananas coated with desiccated coconut and sesame seeds

  • Kai Jeow – Cheap and tasty Thai omelettes.
  • Moo Ping – grilled marinated pork in skewers
  • Poh Pia Tod – spring rolls

Aside from temples and street eats, lots of markets and malls dot the urban areas. What brings excitement to many is the Chatuchak Weekend Market on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok. More than 15,000 stalls for food, fashion, art, and antiques are spread across 35 acres. Whatever you’re looking for, there’s a great chance that you’ll find it here.

If you are a night owl, don’t you worry because as they say, “Thailand never sleeps.” Choose from a night market in Patpong; riverside night shopping, burlesque shows, and Chao Phraya River viewing at Asiatique The River Front; sky-high dining at Baiyoke Sky Restaurant; bars; and the list goes on.
